The world of Helmantel is like an oasis in the hectic world of the end of the twentieth century.

Former Director of Westfries Museum, the Netherlands, Ruud Spruit

"Beauty is everywhere. It is not that she is lacking to our eye, but our eyes which fail to perceive her." This quote by Auguste Rodin, the master of modern sculpture, manifests his view of the beauty deep-rooted in the world. Likewise, Henk Helmantel, a contemporary Dutch artist, also has the remarkable ability to observe things through his insightful eyes. His gaze at life is genuinely represented through his paintbrush. Each of his works is a strong and powerful revelation of his thoughts and perceptions that can reach the heart of each viewer across the boundaries of time and nationality.

In 1945, Henk Helmantel was born in Westeremden, a small town in Northern Holland. His parents were farmers and pious Christians. In 1961, he was admitted to Minerva Art Academy and started to study art, indulging himself in the learning of classical painting techniques and modern art concepts. Now, Henk Helmantel is reputed as an iconic contemporary realist painter in Europe, known for his outstanding command of painting techniques to represent the textual and spiritual essence of objects. He prefers daily-life objects over magnificent scenery in his paintings. His realistic depiction of an object is more than superficial representation of its appearance but also in-depth representation of the texture, volume, space, light and shadow, air, character and emotions. His works receive extremely high recognition from around the world. In 2014, he was made a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands to honor his contribution to the Dutch society.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the “
