Origami Universe:an exhibition of art and innovation through folding

This exhibition features creations from more than 60 artists, designers, engineers, and scientists from over 20 countries. The nearly 400 pieces of artwork includes a paper-made microscope that can magnify objects up to 2000 times and lively animals created without cutting or gluing. You will find origami not only a part of our childhood memory, but also art, design, science and lifestyle.

PAST EXHIBITION

Origami Universean exhibition of art and innovation through folding

Origami, in its most traditional form, is the art of folding a single square of paper with no cuts or glue. Historically, origami models were limited to a small number of relatively simple designs. However, starting in the 1950s, a revolution in folding techniques began, which sparked innovation in more complex designs and different genres of origami. These genres include tessellations, where folded patterns repeat within the sheet of paper, and modulars, where multiple sheets are assembled into a structure held together purely through friction.
These developments resulted in amazing works of art and an exponential rise in origamis popularity. Today origami evolves beyond just paper. Researchers around the world developed mathematical theories and laws that governed the possibilities of folded structures. Designers now use these to create furniture, fashion, and scientific devices. Origami Universe showcases this broad spectrum of contemporary origami creations.

This exhibition invited origami artists Bernard Peyton and Uyen Nguyen to curate. More than 60 renowned origami artists, biologists, designers, and scientists from over 20 countries have taken part in this exhibition of nearly 400 works. This exhibition features three main categories of origami. The first category features living forms, both real and imagined. The second section shows geometric sculptures, featuring abstract and mathematical structures. Finally, the last category displays applications of origami in everyday life, showing how folding is used in many different fields.
